CARDAMOM


CARDAMOM: (H.S. Code- 09083110, 09083120, 09083130): Cardamom is used for two herbs related to ginger. Their seeds are used as a spice. The two species are named Elettaria and Amomum, respectively. The seeds grow in a small seedpod. This seedpod is triangular in cross-section and has the shape of a spindle. There is a thin papery outer shell and small black seeds. Elettaria pods are light green in color, Amomum pods are larger and dark brown.


Elettaria is commonly known as cardamom, green cardamom or true cardamom.


Amomum is usually called black cardamom, or white cardamom.

Cardamom is rightly considered as ’Queen of Spices’ because of its pleasant aroma and taste. It is one of the most exotic, highly prized and is one of the world’s very ancient spices. History of Indian Cardamom has the age of human civilization.

Cardamom oil is a precious ingredient in food preparations, perfumery, health foods, medicines and beverages.
